Information I Collect

This site is designed to collect as little personal information as possible.

1. Newsletter Subscription If you choose to subscribe to the newsletter, you will be asked to provide your email address. This service is managed by MailerLite. Your email address is stored with MailerLite for the sole purpose of sending you occasional updates from this guide. I will never sell or share your email address with third parties. You can read their privacy policy here.

2. Website Analytics To understand how the site is being used and how to improve it, I use a few privacy-focused analytics tools. This site does not use tracking cookies or any invasive methods to identify you personally.

  • GoatCounter: A privacy-respecting analytics service that collects anonymous, aggregated data such as which pages are visited and what websites referred visitors. It does not track you across sites.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics: A lightweight, cookie-less analytics service that provides basic, anonymous traffic data.
  • AWS Access Logs: The web server (AWS CloudFront/S3) keeps standard, anonymous access logs. These may be used to analyze traffic patterns and for security purposes.

3. Browser Local Storage (Bookmarking) This site includes a “bookmarking” feature that allows you to save your reading progress. This information is stored only in your browser’s Local Storage. It is not transmitted to, collected by, or stored on the website’s server in any way.

This guide contains many links to external, authoritative websites (like Parks Canada, etc.). This privacy policy does not cover the practices of those other sites. I am not responsible for their content or privacy policies.

I may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page.
